Five things U2 should do when they're in NZ

(New Zealand Herald) -- 1. Play a secret gig

There are strong rumours that U2 are planning a secret gig at a pub in the city because they're sick and tired of playing impersonal stadiums. The only clue we've been given as to the location is simply: Where the streets have no name.

2. Political talks

Forget Al Gore, when it comes to political pull Bono is the "celeb with the cred". Well, he likes to think so anyway. We'd like to see Bono sit down with Helen Clark and discuss things like War, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and why the world moves in such Mysterious Ways. And besides, it would be a great photo for your wall, Helen.

3. Stadium talks

U2 are the current kings of stadium rock so they know a thing or two about what makes a state of the art venue. So, since tomorrow is the deadline for Auckland councillors to get back to the Government about the waterfront stadium proposal, let's get the U2 lads in as guest consultants for one last brainstorming session.

4. Plant a tree on One Tree Hill

It's the name of the U2 song on 1987's Joshua Tree album about New Zealander Greg Carroll, a U2 roadie who died in a car crash in 1986. Not only will a tree help restore the hill back to its former glory (and the song for that matter), but it's a memorial for U2's mate.

5. Launch iTunes

The rumoured date for the launch of iTunes is November 28. But with U2 - the biggest band in the world, don't you know - in town, then what better weekend to go live in New Zealand with the world's largest online music store?
